Beauties eye the crown 50 turn up for audition of Miss World Harvest Festival pageant

Close to 50 hopefuls turned up to audition for a chance to compete in the coming Miss World Harvest Festival 2013 beauty pageant.

The auditions, which were held at The Club, Riverside Majestic in Kuching yesterday were a prelude to one of the most prestigious pageants in the state. The finals will take place at the Sarawak Cultural Village in conjunction with the World Harvest Festival 2013 (WHF) on May 4.

Contestants were judged based on their physical appearance, per- sonality and talent by a panel of judges — festival director Zaini Zainuddin, E-One Dasri Talent Management managing director Iwan Dasri and reigning queen of last year’s beauty pageant Magrina Awing George.

The ethnic beauty pageant was first introduced in 1999 and is open to all single women of any background.

According to Zaini, this year’s pageant would be especially competitive, adding that the main committee of WHF 2013 has received many more talented, academically qualified and confident contestants than in previous years.

The sixteen who made it through the audition are Claudia Panti Pangkas, Shafreezan Sazali, Brenda Sue Changgai, Rosalind Sajah Robert, Cammielye Oliver Rega, Nur Halina Mohamed Bakar, Merlyner Jantai, Esther Unyana, Fillence Macaitlan, Efazira Sabri, Shaley Merie Wallen, Noraini Sabu, Cornelia Johnek, Fiollaa Redup, Syafiqah Mohd Ahmadi and Nurfetin Afiqah Ariffin.

For this year’s competition, the winner will walk away with cash prizes, crown, a sash and many other subsidiary prizes.

The annual beauty pageant is organised by the Sarawak Cultural Village as one of the programmes for WHF 2013.

The festival will take place between May 3 and May 5. Highlights include retelling of Orang Ulu legends, an international cultural concert with interactive workshops on dance and music, finals of Ironman WHF 2013 competition, Dayak Food Festival and more.

Tickets are sold at RM60 per person, or RM30 if purchased before May 1.
