Protesters step up protest against Lim

GURUN: The controversial ‘Allah’ issue is getting more intense as a peaceful demonstration was held in Kedah for the third consecutive day.

Fifteen protestors claiming to be PAS members from the Gurun and Jerai branches gathered in front the Al-Khairiyah Bedong Mosque took part in the 15-minute demonstration.

Led by Abdul Mannan Khan Arshad Ahmad, 48, they demanded a public apology from Lim over the issue.

“We are disappointed with his (Lim) statement. Is this a tactic to gain sympathy votes from those living in urban areas?

“PAS and PKR leaders should reprimand Lim for reviving the sensitive issue,” he told the reporters here yesterday.

The protestors also stomped on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s photographs during the demonstration.

On Friday, some 30 members from several Malay non-governmental organisations held a protest outside the Sultan Muzaffar Shah Mosque and subsequently on Saturday, a group of 10 people had a similar demonstration outside the Pulau Sepom mosque, with both demanding a public apology from Lim.

The issue came about when Lim called the Federal Government to allow Christians to use the ‘Allah’ in the Malay-language Bible.
