Cracko the spin maestro

At Mist Club in Bangsar, contestants of the Pioneer Digital DJ Battle 2012 were already lining up way before opening time.

The Pioneer Digital DJ Battle is one of the biggest DJ competitions in Malaysia.

In fact, many seasoned party- goers and club-hoppers would be familiar with established names in the clubbing and party scene such as DJ Fuzz, DJ Victor G, DJ Goldfish, DJ Blink and more.

These are some of the past champions of the Pioneer Digital DJ Battle, an annual event that has been held now for 10 years since it first appeared in the music scene in 2003.

The Battle seeks to discover new talents for the local club scene in Malaysia.

Initiated and helmed by a group of party-crazy, audio-savvy Pioneer ProDJ executives in Orlando, Florida, the Pioneer Digital Battle is a much anticipated event all over the world.

Today, the event continues to attract a huge following of die-hard audiophiles, aspiring DJs, clubbers and party-goers.

A truly humorous emcee had the crowd in stitches and rolling on the floor with his antics and quirky quips.

This was followed by a short opening speech by Pioneer Malaysia managing director Kazutoshi Takahashi.

And then, the music began, and the five finalists emerged for the much-awaited clash: DJ Kelz, C Master, DJ A-Wee, Bl@ckheart and Ben Cracko – of which the panel of judges had a tough time selecting from the semi-finals.

They came on stage; they spun, scratched, and showcased their 20 minutes of their talent based on the creative use of Pioneer equipment, song selection, skills, techniques, audience response and overall showmanship.

There was a live screen so judges and audience could see the DJs’ actions clearly.

The crowd were ecstatic as each contestant strived to deliver their best.

From DJ Kelz’s fireworks finale, C Master’s Gangnam Style beat to DJ A-Wee’s retro 1950s newscaster cameo and more.

All these wowed the audience and even the judges, comprising Bryan Burger, DJ ET (last year’s Digital DJ Battle champion), DVJ Speedzone, DJ Low, and Pioneer Malaysia general manager Raymond Lee.

After that dazzling display of showmanship and skills, it was down to serious work for the judges.

The results were delivered loud and clear, and the Pioneer Digital Battle 2012 champion was Cracko, while first runner-up went to DJ A-Wee and Bl@ckheart was second runner-up.

Cracko won two units CDJ Player, a DJM Mixer and RM2,000 cash from Pioneer, along with RM800 Topman vouchers, Ice-watch Classic Fluo (Blue) watch and Gatsby products.

DJ A-Wee won a RM6,000 DJM Mixer with RM500 Topman vouchers, Ice-watch Sili Winter (Golden Leaf) watch and Gatsby products.

Bl@ckheart received a  RM3,000 RMX-1000 Remix Station from Pioneer with RM200 Topman vouchers,Ice-watch Classic Fluo (Orange) watch and Gatsby products.
