THE Damansara Jaya Residents & Owners Association (DJROA) is unhappy over the illegal dumping of old furniture and rubbish at its recycling centre in Jalan SS22/47.
The association’s recycling centre, which was started in 2000, has become a dumping ground for unwanted furniture, old electrical appliances, dead animals and unidentified
DJROA president Datuk Yew Cheng Hoe said the culprits who used the centre as their dumping ground should be brought to book.
“This is really irresponsible behaviour without consideration for others,” he said.
I have my committee members going to the centre to sort the recyclables out. It is a shame that these members are carrying out community work and they have to go through the trouble of sorting through dead pets and rubbish to be able to do their work. It is sad.
“’The illegal dumping is not only an eyesore but also poses a danger to the members. We have spotted snakes there as well.’’
The association has sought the help of
the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to clear the rubbish.
“We cannot be asking the council to clear the rubbish all the time. These culprits have to be caught to stop them from dumping again and again.
The residents hope that MBPJ would send their enforcement team to catch the culprits in
their act and impose a heavy penalty on them to stop them once and for all.’’
A volunteer at the centre, Linda Khoo, said that scavengers made the situation worse by rummaging through the rubbish.
“The residents have been educated on how and what to recycle. The centre is supported by responsible residents here and from neighbouring residential areas. I regret that some still do not learn and have contributed to this eyesore.’’
