Another team join the fray

KEDAH football fans now have the chance to cheer another state team in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) organised national competition this year.

This prospect of an alternative choice comes about with the advent of Kedah United who are hoping to become a new force in the state in time to come.

The team is an off-shoot of the Kedah Malays FA and they have been formally accepted by the national body to participate in the FAM Cup competition, the lowest tier of league competition this year.

The Super League and Premier league are the top two major competitions.

A 31-strong squad which includes five contract players have been registered with FAM.

The five are former Kedah Super League players Hasmawi Hassan, Shariman Che Omar, Mohd Rozaidi Rahim, Rezuan Mohd Radzy and Phul Sakh Lom.

They signed a one-year contract with the team.

The team is coached by former national players Mohamad Ramlee, Roshidi Shaari and Zulkifli Mahmud.

They conduct their training sessions at the MADA grounds in Ampang Jajar on Monday and Wednesday and at the Istana Anak Bukit ground on other days.

Team manager Mohd Shakri Mat said that Kedah United will be officially launched on Jan 12 at a simple ceremony to be held at Mentaloon, the official residence of the Kedah Menteri Besar.

He said that most of the players in the squad have experience playing in the Presidents Cup, Sultans Gold Cup or Super League competitions.

Some of them have been dropped from the state squad and some are up-and-coming players who need to be given a lifeline to continue their career in the state.

Otherwise they will just disappear into oblivion from the soccer scene.

The 10-team FAM league competition is expected to start on January 28.

The teams are: Tumpat FC (Kel), Ceebago FC (Sabah), Kuantan FC and Shazan Muda FC (Pahang), Beta Ria (Nse), Angkatan Tentera Darat (ATD), Penang Bekalan Air FC, Penang FA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Kedah United.

The teams would be involved in a home and away format in the league competition.

Stadium Darulaman will be Kedah United’s home ground and all the matches will be played at 8.45pm.

The Kedah United squad are as follow: Mohd Sheril Anuar Saini, Phul Sakh Lom, Mohd Nizat Salleh, Mohd Hisham Mohd Shofi, Rezuan Mohd Radzy, Mohd Rozaidi Rahim, Ku Nazri Azuan Azizan, Anond Chim, Nur Qusyairi Chik, Ahmad Nadzmil Abdillah Ahmad Nadzri, Mohd Nizam Mansor, Mohd Azhar Arbi Radzuan, Mohd Akmal Faiz Ratim, Rafiz Abu Bakar, Mohd Hazwan Zainun, Mohd Shukri Fdzil, Mohd Aminuddin Azmi, Shariman Che Omar, Muammar Nur Halim Rahim, Mohd Arfan Rashid, Mohd Khidir Ahmad Muzafara, Abdul Shukur Abdul Malek, Hasmawi Hassan, Mohd Ivaan Hakimi Abdullah, Mohd Arif Azizan, Shahnol Ahmad, Mohd Fadzil Mustafa, Shamsuri Azis, Mohd Khairul Syafiq Mohd Khairi, Mohd Shazrul Mohd Ashraf Mathews and Mohd Fahmi Zakaria.
