THREE charity organisations received timely gifts of food and household items, thanks to caring members of the public in Penang.
Items like biscuits, rice, oats, toilet paper, detergent, adult diapers and stationery sets were handed to the Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion, Velvet Glory and Ramakrishna Ashrama on Christmas Eve by Gama Supermarket and Departmental Store staff and Leo Club of Penang Metropolitan (Omega) members under the ‘A Gift A Day!’ Christmas Gifts Caring Campaign.
The campaign, which was held from Dec 1 to 23 in conjunction with Christmas, was jointly organised by Gama and the club.
Thanking generous donors, Gama advertising and promotions assistant manager Joseph Tan said the response to the campaign was very good.
“Many shoppers bought essential goods from Gama and placed them inside a big gift box next to our customer service counter for distribution.
“Our own staff collected some RM1,000 which we used to purchase items needed by the beneficiary homes,” he said.
He said Gama hoped to make the campaign an annual affair.
