Best way for expats to know a country is to explore it

I AM often asked by fellow expatriates, long-time residents and newcomers alike, after they have exhausted the Menara Kuala Lumpur, Petronas Towers, Changkat Bukit Bintang strip and Jalan Alor for the umpteenth time, what are the other things to do in Kuala Lumpur that does not involve eating and sightseeing at famous city landmarks.

It is a very common existential question, especially for temporary dwellers in a place, to exhaust all means of activities and places to visit before our “time runs out” — or in expat terms, before a posting has run its course.
