Farewell to the greatest Red ever

Anfield hero: Gerrard waving to the crowd as he walks round the pitch with his daughters after Liverpool’s final match in Anfield. The former England captain played his final home match after more than 700 appearances for the club, before he moves to MLS team LA Galaxy.

WHEN Steven Gerrard announced in January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, it came as my saddest moment as a Red supporter.

Ever since he pulled on the captain’s armband, he has been ever-present in the side — only injuries or suspensions keeping him out. It was inconceivable that he would not be leading the team out next season.
