Enabled by technology and the social media, the sharing economy, whereby people share their items for a profit, has arrived. And, like it or not, it’s here to stay.

TIME was when you travelled to another city or out of the country, your only choice of accommodation was a hotel. And for commuting, a taxi. But these days, web-savvy travellers are increasingly using services that are provided by private individuals.
