Stricter rules on bauxite transportation

KUANTAN: New measures including regulated transportation times and stricter rules on the load and cleanliness of lorries, have been proposed to address complaints by residents against pollution caused by bauxite miners.

Bukit Goh Bauxite Issues Committee chairman Datuk Dr Abd Wahid Abd Manap said they would also conduct monitoring activities to ensure lorries are adequately covered with tarpaulin, are not on the road when it rains and that mining operators place their bauxite stockpiles at least 500m away from roads.
