A shade that turns off customers

Long wait: A TEKS1M queuing up the KL Sentral station where passengers would buy a coupon with fixed rates.

Three years ago, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) introduced its new fleet of gold taxis called Teksi 1Malaysia (TEKS1M) to rebrand an industry that was reeling from bad press. But it did not expect taxi drivers, the very people it wanted to help, to be marginalised.

HUNDREDS of Teksi 1Malaysia (TEKS1M) operating in the Klang Valley are losing business because of stiff competition from not only ride-sharing apps, but also from their own budget counterpart.
