KOTA KINABALU: A 2011 poll by the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) showed that about 4.3 million or 20.9% of Malaysians smoke everyday.
Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid said between 10% and 15% or over 100,000 annual deaths in the country were caused by smoking-related diseases.
