Tree carefully relocated to make way for road widening

Doing it right: An excavator operator following instructions as he digs a trench around the 80-year-old Angsana tree for a better view of its roots during the process of removing the tree in Jalan Residensi.

SOME 20 workers took three hours to excavate an 80-year-old Angsana tree at Jalan Residensi to be replanted at Persiaran Karpal Singh in George Town.

The workers of a private contractor company used the Air Spade, a piece of equipment which is useful for root investigation and excavations, or in areas containing tree roots, which could be damaged by conventional digging.
