The haphazard parking along Jalan Kemajuan in Petaling Jaya is becoming a nuisance.
Most of the culprits are patrons and customers of restaurants located along a major section of this main road.
Vehicles are parked illegally on one lane of the road in both directions of Jalan Kemajuan. The situation is worse during lunch and dinner hours.
Section 52 resident G.Krishnan questioned why the authorities were not taking action.
“One side of the road is always taken up. You can even see car jockeys directing vehicles to park on the main road,” he said.
A.Aidah said the haphazard parking was dangerous for motorists travelling at night.
“I have had several near misses. How can vehicles be allowed to park on this busy street?”
“The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) should not turn a blind eye. This will lead to a chain effect when other restaurants open and people think they can illegally park wherever they please,” said Aidah.
When contacted, MBPJ councillor Ang Ming Ern said the highest number of illegal parking summonses had been issued in the area.
“Some pay the fine but many do not. I agree that issuing summonses has not been that effective. We need to work with the Road Transport Department to see what further action can be taken," he said.
