Plan to build 50 markets for fishermen to sell their catch

Fresh from the sea: Fishermen selling their catch at the market in Penaga, Kepala Batas.

THE Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) will build 50 more fishermen’s markets throughout the country this year, at a cost of RM12.5mil, in an effort to eliminate middlemen.

LKIM chairman Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim said each market would cost between RM200,000 and RM250,000 and would enable fishermen to sell their catch directly to the people.
