Hola bonita!: Get into the World Cup 2014 fever

Celebrate the football season by looking – and smelling – your finest.

World Cup fever has returned, and it’s not just fans of the sport who are excited. Cosmetics companies are also getting into the spirit of the game, and we’re not just talking about face art either.

From brash Brazilian-inspired cosmetics to zesty samba-reffic fragrances, here are some products that will score you some points in the beauty department. Be quick about it though, as many of them are limited editions!

Yves Rocher Bold Lines

If you have the make-up, it’s time to put it to good use, says French cosmetics brand Yves Rocher. The brand has put together a look for the gals who are interested in cheering on their favourite team. Just pick the Couleurs Nature Eye Pencil that best represents your country – with over 30 high-intensity (and, more importantly, long-lasting) shades to choose from.

Draw a bold line across your eye contour, around the top and base of the eyelids, then top it off with a smudge of mascara. The Couleurs Nature Eye Pencils are sold at all Yves Rocher outlets.

L’Occitane Feito no Brasil collection

Founder Olivier Baussan was so entranced by a trip he took to futbol country that he created this collection – which loosely translates into “Made in Brazil” in English – as an homage to it.

Formulated with indigenious indredients like the jenipapo, a type of fruit tree, and vitoria regia, an Amazonian water lily that blossoms at dusk, there are two eponymous product ranges that are as fabulous as they are festive.

Jenipapo is a line of of sun care and fragrance products for the face and body, inspired by the plant’s protective and moisturising properties, while Vitoria Regia is a line of fragrance products that encompasses a shower gel, body lotion, soap, cologne and hand cream.

The packaging is super cool too, thanks to Baussan’s clever collaboration with two of Brazil’s finest artists. Available at all L’Occitane stores.

Clarins Colours of Brazil collection

True to its name, this collection draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of Brazil. With its gorgeous bronzer, eyeshadow quartet with eyeliner, lip balm crayons and a black waterproof mascara, this is one of the prettiest make-up kits out there.

While the eye palette – which combines everyday neutrals with bright pops of colour, including one fierce cobalt blue eyeliner – isn’t for the faint-hearted, the nourishing lip gloss is available in six delicious shades and is sure to flatter many a skin tone. (Not available in Malaysia.)

Brazil by OPI

“I wanted women around the world to embrace the energy and playfulness for which Brazilian women are known,” announced Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI co-founder and executive vice president. Well, she’s found her answer in this new collection.

Featuring a palette of 12 nail lacquers awash in bright hues and earthy tones, this collection evokes the country’s tropical rainforests, warm sandy beaches and, of course, the femme fatales.

There are also four limited edition Beach Sandies Liquid Sand nail lacquers to help you achieve those textured and neon nails. Check out some of the creative shade names such as I Just Can’t Cope-acabana Nothing (a sunshine yellow hue) and Where Did Suzi’s Man-go? (shades of mango)! Available at OPI authorised salons.

Rio Rush collection for Revlon

For a look that’s described as “tropical with sun-kissed, glowing skin and radiant make-up”, global artistic director for Revlon, Gucci Westman, has created Rio Rush.

Whether bought together or separately, its selection of eye, lip, face and nail products is guaranteed to thrill with its exotic hues. Limited edition products include a face illuminator, touted as this season’s must-have, as well as nail enamel in shades that screams summer.

The game can wait – right now, we can’t tear our gaze away from all that gold and purple! Available at Revlon counters.

FIFA World Cup Brazil Passion Fragrance

No, you won’t smell like Ronaldo’s sweaty pits but you can look forward to sniffs of “grapefruit, pear and raspberry” as promised by the packaging of this official perfume released by the folks at FIFA. Described as “young” and “feminine” by its creators, the scent is oriental, woody and fruity.

The masculine version is sporty and bold, spouting bergamot, cardamom and grapefruit top notes and cedarwood, vetiver, leather and musk base. (Not available in Malaysia.)
