Hair care: Professional products won’t be harsh on your scalp and the right leave-in conditioner will ensure hair is moisturised and wellnourished.
A 21-year-old student thinks her skin makes her look old.
I'm a 21-year-old student with skin which makes me look older than my age.
I have not used many products, as I’m not sure what to use. I always worry that the products will not suit my skin. I do use a moisturiser every morning, though.
I have whiteheads, blackheads, blemishes as well as unsightly pimple scars. I look old and dark. I don’t know what to do!
Is there any way to have clear, flawless skin? — Arch
Oily skin is a result of overactive sebaceous glands, says Susan Khor, Origins education manager. Hence you get skin that is prone to clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads and a breakout. This type of skin tends to look shiny but the complexion is often dull due to accumulation of dead skin cells.
You need special care that will minimise and control the oil internally, while giving comfort and protection externally.
Origins Zero Oil range is formulated with Saw Palmetto and mint to control over-productive sebaceous glands while reducing surface shine.
It unclogs and minimises the appearance of pores, and reduces breakout.
Start with Zero Oil Deep pore cleanser that will cleanse thoroughly and work deep to remove excess oil, make-up and impurities.
Follow that with Zero Oil Pore purifying toner that will thoroughly remove excess oil, preparing the skin for the next product, which is Zero Oil Oil-free moisture lotion. This will immediately provide skin with the right amount of hydration.
The Zero Oil range is clinically proven to provide all-day oil control when used as a regimen.
Salicylic acid in the formulation helps to exfoliate dead skin cells, resulting in clearer, brighter-looking skin.
You are encouraged to use Modern Friction nature’s gentle dermabrasion and Clear Improvement mask weekly to further unclog and detoxify skin.
Using the Zero Oil range as a daily regimen will effectively leave your skin feeling refreshed and soon you will see an overall improvement in the condition of your skin.
Origins will be giving Arch a Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrassion worth RM120.
I’ve had a dandruff and oily scalp problem since puberty. I’m 22 now and the problem persists.
To overcome it, I’ve used an anti-dandruff shampoo recommended by pharmacists. Although the condition has improved, there are still traces of dandruff.
My daily regimen includes an oil control anti-dandruff shampoo which works wonders for the first few hours, but by the next morning, my scalp is oily again.
It’s really frustrating because I can easily see up to 50 strands of hair falling each day and there is nothing that pharmacists can do to solve this problem. I’m worried that one day a bald spot will appear since it is obvious that my hair is thinning. Please help. — S.Yee
Randall Wong, L’Oreal Professionnel national education manager observes that you have been using products from the drugstore to solve your scalp problem.
Perhaps it is time to use professional products instead. Products from the pharmacy may be effective to counteract your scalp problem, but may be too harsh on your hair.
Try using L’Oreal Professionnel Pure Resource purifying shampoo as your daily wash. It is formulated with vitamin E, purified water and anti hard water agent.
Avoid using a conditioner as it may be too rich for your scalp. Instead, use a leave-in conditioner instead.
Apply L’Oreal Professionnel Force Vector Leave In Cream from mid-length to ends only, avoiding the roots of the hair. This leave-in conditioner will be a light nourishing agent for the hair without weighing it down.
You may not necessarily be experiencing hair loss as it’s quite normal to lose 50 strands of hair or more a day.
If indeed your hair is thinning, it could be due to either hereditary or environmental factors. While hereditary loss cannot be fully halted, it can be delayed.
On the other hand, if it’s caused by external factors such as using the wrong products, pollution and poor dietary habits, then it can be managed and controlled.
After shampooing and applying the leave-in conditioner, apply L’Oreal Professionnel Trinical, an anti-hair loss treatment which acts as a daily supplement for the scalp, making it stronger. It also extends the lifespan of each strand of hair, supports hair growth and prevents hair loss.
Excessive oil production can be controlled by eating healthily. Avoid oily food, establish a regular sleep pattern and use the right hair products.
L’Oreal will be giving S.Yee L’Oreal Professionnel Pure Resource Shampoo, Force Vector Leave In Cream and Professionnel Trinical, altogether worth RM177.
