Yves Rocher illustrates how it’s possible to line quest! your eyes flawlessly.
I HAVE attractive eyes, quite big but with single eyelids. I love to use eyeliners but have yet to find a good smudge-proof one. All the ones I’ve bought over the cosmetic counters have been disappointing, regardless of price. I would greatly appreciate your advice on which type of eyeliner to use: pencil, gel or felt-tip pen. It’s always so frustrating when the eyeliner “disappears” or smudges. I also have thin lips. Please advise how to apply a lip liner properly so that I look like I have fuller lips. – Ann
Liesl Lam, Yves Rocher make-up artist, says that the eyeliner is one of the most important elements of good make-up as it enhances the beauty of your eyes. However, its application can be challenging. The good news is, all you need is a few make-up tricks.
The area around our eyes, especially our eyelids, is subjected to sebum secretion. When the excess sebum comes in contact with the eyeliner, naturally it will smudge if preliminary steps are not taken to set the eyeliner. In order to achieve a long-lasting, smudge-free and well-defined eyes, firstly, prep the skin of the eyelids with liquid or cream foundation. Using a foundation sponge or your fingers, apply a small amount and dab onto the skin, followed by loose powder to set the foundation and absorb the sebum.
Then, use Yves Rocher waterproof eye pencil, designed for precision with its built-in sharpener and cream texture. It’s enriched with chamomile extract for smoother gliding application.
Tilt your head backwards slightly with your chin forward and look downwards in front of a mirror, and draw a fine line as close as you can to the outline above your eyelash. This is to draw a guideline before the actual application of the liquid eyeliner. This helps you to adjust the shape and thickness preferred for your eyeliner.
The next step is drawing a line on top of the line which you just did, with Yves Rocher Felt-Tip eyeliner, an ultra-fine, supple tip for high precision lining to guarantee a deep, intense look for a full 12 hours. Try to keep your hands steady during application and minimise your blinking for at least 30 seconds to allow the liquid eyeliner to dry and set. After this, you can apply your choice of eyeshadow or nude colours on top of your eyeliner and eyelids for a natural look.
To transform thin lips to fuller and sexy lips, use a lip pencil and draw a fine line slightly outside the natural outline of your lips. Then, fill up the colour gradually over your lips. Plump up the lips by applying Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Volume Lip Gloss, enriched with Sandthorn extract, known for its moisturising and plumping properties. Choose lighter colours that match your skin tone as dark and strong colours will make the lips appear thinner.
Yves Rocher will giving Ann a make-up set comprising a felt-tip eyeliner, waterproof eye pencil, Sexy Pulp Volume Lipgloss, Lip Pencil and Velvet Finish Loose Powder, altogether worth RM243.
I’M a 26-year-old guy with combination acne-prone and oily skin. Acne seems to run in my family and for the past few years, blackheads, pimples and acne vulgaris have been part of my life. I’ve tried many different solutions ranging from using over-the-counter acne medication to expensive anti-acne system from beauty salons and even medication from dermatologists, but they all don’t seem to work. Sometimes, my skin will clear up but the persistent acne always return to haunt me.
However, my sister who suffers from the same problem, have a much easier time just using conventional over-the-counter products which work for her. What’s the difference between a man and woman’s skin maintenance? Do you have any specific anti-acne treatment system for guys? The acne usually appear on the side of my cheeks while the blackheads are on my nose and around the T-zone area. – Ryan
Lab Series education manager Evelyn Lim says that the skincare regimen for both men and women are the same. The only difference is the formulation of the products used.
Most men do experience acne at some point in their lives and this extends to adulthood, due to internal or external factors.
Men’s skin are generally 40% thicker, while pores are twice the size of women’s hence twice as much sebum is produced in comparison to women.
Men’s skin is also more prone to irritation because of shaving. Despite being in their late 20s, men will still experience oiliness since their skin is highly affected by hormones. Eventually, the oil secretion will lessen as part of the ageing process. Men tend to show slower signs of ageing, however, when they do, they age in giant steps.
Acne is caused by trapped sebum clogged in pores and over time, the bacteria will cause inflammation. You should look into your lifestyle, for example, a high glycemic diet like rice or potatoes can increase the level of insulin in the body, and contribute to acne.
It is best to treat with products that are oil-free and non-acnegenic. Ideally, Lab Series Skincare For Men is recommended as it’s formulated specifically for men. A basic three-step skincare regimen is crucial. The Oil Control Face Wash specially formulated for oily or acne-prone skin helps to wash away impurities and excess sebum while helping to minimise break-out. It has salicylic acid to improve skin’s clarity and tone, while caffeine and gentian extracts help soothe and calm skin by reducing redness.
Toning skin after cleansing helps to balance the skin’s pH level and preps skin for the next product. Oil Control Solution, a fragrance- and oil-free formula, helps clear away excess oil and tighten pores.
It comes in a bi-phase formula, whereby salicylic acid and witch hazel gently clean and brighten skin by exfoliating dead, unwanted skin cells and surface impurities, while hydrophobic powder, a unique blotting ingredient, invisibly control oil throughout the day.
The Oil Control Daily Hydrator formulated for oily and acne prone skin uses advanced oil-free technology to improve skin’s texture and tone for a clearer, shine-free matte skin. Acetyl glucosamine works by increasing natural cellular desquamation, while Laminaria Saccharina extract aid to immediately reduce shine and control excess sebum production.
Lab Series will be Ryan a Lab Series Skincare for Men Oil Control Face Wash, Oil Control Solution and Control Daily Hydrator, altogether worth RM320.
