Benedict Cumberbatch will be hosting the Laureus Sports Awards on March 26 in Kuala Lumpur.
CUMBERBI ... erm, Cumber-collectives, scream your hearts out because television’s hottest actor Benedict Cumberbatch is going to breathe the same air as the rest of us this month.
The actor, who plays the beloved but oh-so-annoying and an absolute know-it-all detective Sherlock Holmes in the hit series Sherlock, is going to be in Malaysia to host the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards on March 26.
And if that's not enough to get your girly screams on, Academy Award and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx will also be at the same awards. Foxx, who stars in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 film as Electro, is scheduled to perform at Laureus.
The Laureus World Sports Awards, in its 15th edition, recognises sporting achievements in the 2013 calendar year, and among this year’s nominees are footballers Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Nadine Angerer.
Winners are selected based on the votes by the Laureus World Sports Academy – consisting 46 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time.
Some of the previous winners are Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, Novak Djokovic, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes, Rafael Nadal, Pelé, Ronaldo, Michael Schumacher, Kelly Slater, Zinedine Zidane. Shaun White and Serena Williams.
The proceeds from the event will benefit the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports community sports projects in 34 countries.
Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M) is the corporate social responsibility partner of the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards and has been working with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to help young people in Malaysia through sports.
