Taiwanese star’s nuptials to aide of Indonesian minister to take place in Singapore on Saturday.
ACTRESS Charlie Young confirmed that she was getting married after a report said she will wed her Singapore boyfriend of 19 years in the republic this Saturday.
“I would like to share a piece of happy news – I’m marrying my other half,” she wrote on Weibo yesterday.
Apple Daily Taiwan said the Taiwanese star will have a simple wedding with Khoo Shao Tze, 43, at a five-star hotel.
She has been in Singapore for a few months, preparing for the noon ceremony and evening banquet, and finalising her trousseau and wedding pictures, it said.
Keeping it low-key, Young skipped formal wedding invitations and merely telephoned her Hong Kong friends and co-stars such as Gigi Leung, Aaron Kwok, Julian Cheung and his wife Anita Yuen, who will be flying into Singapore from tomorrow, it added.
The 20-odd showbiz guests also include Tsui Hark, who directed her in The Lovers (1994), and his wife Nansun Shi, and director Oxide Pang and his Malaysian actress wife Lee Sinje.
Khoo, a trained lawyer, works as the secretary to the Indonesian tourism minister, according to Apple.
The couple met in 1993. In 1997, she quit acting to set up an image consultancy with him. But the business went into debt and was wound up in 2003, and she said the romance was over.
In 2011, they attended a play in Singapore starring Lee Sinje, and were said to have reunited.
He apparently proposed six months ago.
According to the report, Young did not say yes till May when she made her directorial debut with Christmas Rose.
May 23 was also her 39th birthday and she was stirred by Khoo’s touching proposal, said Apple Daily.
He had reportedly said to her: “In good times or bad, in riches or poverty, sickness or health, happiness or sorrow, I will always love you.”
On Weibo, she wrote about how, while in separate countries, they had cared for and supported each other through their careers like close friends.
“Slowly we discovered that this friendship felt like family so we decided to make a step together into our next stage of life,” she wrote. – The Straits Times, Singapore/Asia News Network
