New runners don't need to fuss with stabilizing shoes: study

For newbie runners, a neutral running shoe will do just fine, a new study suggests.

A new study shows that new runners don’t need to worry about whether or not to purchase stabilizing sneakers that help correct pronation, or how much your feet roll in after striking the ground. While stabilizing shoes are designed to help prevent injuries, new runners only need to opt for a basic neutral shoe, researchers say.

Researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark recruited 927 new runners and classified their feet as highly supinated, supinated, neutral, pronated, or highly pronated. While of all the runners wore the same neutral running shoe, the Adidas Supernova Glide 3, injury rates among the group over the course of one year were similar.
