Not all skin cancers occur from sun exposure

Sun smarts: Asians are more likely to cover up on the beach to protect against the sun’s rays, which is a good preventive measure against developing skin cancer. — Filepic

I went on a beach holiday recently. A lot of people were sunning themselves on the beach. There was this lady next to me who was covered up with long-sleeved clothes. She was sitting under a large umbrella. She told me I could get skin cancer if I exposed myself to the sun. Is this true?
