In a preliminary study to learn about mysterious but promising brown fat cells, researchers demonstrated that exposure to cool environmental temperatures actually creates them, possibly helping to boost metabolism.
The study was led by endocrinologist Dr Paul Lee from Sydney’s Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Australia, whose past research has indicated brown fat, which is prevalent in lean people, is the key player in metabolism because it generates heat.
