Want to learn more about yoga, especially how it can benefit men? Visit the Star Health Fair 2014 at Mid Valley in KL next week.
YOGA is not only an exercise form for ladies, but for men and families as well. Besides delaying the ageing process, it also helps check impotence problems and other male matters.
This is the message the BKS Iyengar Yogashala centre hopes to impart at the Star Health Fair 2014 next weekend.
“It seems that mostly women do yoga, but we’d like to emphasise that it is also important for men as these therapeutic exercises can help relieve stress, reduce blood pressure and help with prostate problems,” said the centre’s founder S. Nanda Kumar.
Men tend to shy away from yoga classes believing it is effeminate or not macho.
Nanda’s team is out to set the record straight, and they will be giving a talk, slideshow and demonstrations on some helpful postures, using props as aids.
Yoga guru Iyengar pioneered the art of using props for the sickly, for those who find it difficult to get on and off the floor, and people who want to improve or get deeper into asanas (postures).
He encourages the use of blocks, chairs, straps, bolsters and other objects to help practitioners alleviate their ailments such as backaches and insomnia.
Nanda added, “We also want to introduce children above the age of eight to yoga and show parents how it can lead to a healthy growth level and better focus.
“You don’t need to go outdoors to do yoga. It can be done anywhere, any time.”
This year’s theme, “Let’s Live Great!” aims to inspire Malaysians to lead a healthy lifestyle by being physically and mentally fit, with special talks and activities being held.
The Star Health Fair 2014 is organised by The Star with Great Eastern Life as the event partner. It will be held in Halls 1 to 3 of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur, from April 11 to 13. The fair is open from 10am to 7pm and admission is free. For enquiries, call 03-7967 1388 (ext 1243/1475) or visit www.facebook.com/thestarhealthfair.
