Dato' Jimmy Choo's classic "Anouk" pointy pumps gets a pastry makeover at The Berkeley, London. - The Berkeley
At The Berkeley Hotel in London, Malaysian designer Dato' Jimmy Choo's iconic fashion label gets a sweet tribute.
What is the tribute exactly? Cakes and biscuits designed to look like the brand's most iconic fashion items, like its classic "Anouk" heels. Called the "Pret-a-Portea – Jimmy Choo Collection", the limited line of dainty designer pastries is the result of a collaboration between the hotel chefs and the fashion brand.
In their preparations for the collection, the hotel's chefs spent many hours poring over the brand's portfolio of iconic shoes and accessories, examining the materials, embellishments, prints and patterns of the latest catwalk designs, and the fashion brand was more than happy to let the food artists have an insider's look.
“We are excited to have our Jimmy Choo collection immortalised by the Berkeley's Pret-a-Portea, which after nearly 10 years has become such a respected institution in the fashion world. I can’t wait to see our designs interpreted as edible delicacies!” says Sandra Choi, the brand's creative director.
Meanwhile, The Berkeley's head pastry chef Mourad Khiat says, “We are excited to be working with Jimmy Choo on this exclusive edition of Pret-a-Portea. Our pastry kitchen is currently filled with Jimmy Choo handbags and shoes to ensure we truly understand the luxurious feel of the materials, embellishments, prints and patterns. The craftsmanship of each item is exceptional, and we are eager to highlight this in our cakes.”
If the thought of munching on Jimmy Choos fills you with giddy emotions, make your reservations now as the collection will only be served for a limited time, from Oct 13 to 19, during the afternoon tea service in uber-stylish The Caramel Room, located within the hotel.
If you're not a Jimmy Choo acolyte, however, fret not. The Berkeley's Pret-a-Portea 2014 collection features a delightful spread of cakes, pastries, and cookies, inspired by the designs of luxury brands like Christian Louboutin, Miu Miu, DSquared, Victoria Beckham and Oscar de la Renta.
Louboutin's Pigalle, the brand's classic patent pump, for instance, has been turned into an edible cookie with turquoise icing and its signature red sole, while chefs paid homage to Miu Miu by replicating the brand's exotic skin tote bag with chocolate pecan moelleux. Yummy and chic!
> The "Pret-a-Portea – Jimmy Choo Collection" service at The Caramel Room, The Berkeley, will be available from Oct 13 to 19, while the "Pret-a-Portea 2014 Collection" service is available daily, except during the Jimmy Choo week. The service, from 1pm to 5.30pm, costs £41, excluding additional charges. Dress code is elegant smart casual – oh, but of course! the-berkeley.co.uk/fashion-afternoon-tea/
