Bug-eaters' day out: Pictures from Pestaurant

The global pop-up restaurant featuring edible insects was held in a dozen countries yesterday. Here are some images from the event in Washington D.C, and a video from the one in Sydney.

The event in Washington D.C, sponsored by Ehrlich Pest Control, was held at the Occidental Restaurant. On offer were sweet and savoury edible insects, grasshopper burgers and much more. Ehrlich Pest Control donated US$5 to DC Central Kitchen for every person who ate something at the event. – Photos KAREN BLEIER/AFP

Start with something sweet: mealworm and cricket lollipops.
A patron makes a face as she prepares to eat a mealworm.
These look like any good juicy burger – they're grasshopper burgers.
Here they are in a bun and piled high with dried crickets and mealworms.
She had fun and is glad to make it out alive.

In Sydney, Rentokil Pestaurant served up chapulines (crickets), mealworms, cockroaches and creepy crawly candy for anyone game to try the unusual snacks. Watch the video for the day out at Wynyard Park. For more images, visit their Facebook page.
