Keep tabs on the top restaurants from 26 regions through social media.
It has become one of the most important days on the gastronomic calendar: the day the food world pronounces the best restaurant in the world.
Though ambitious and somewhat divisive, since launching in 2003 the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards organised by the UK-based Restaurant magazine have become one of the most eagerly anticipated events for the world’s culinary glitterati.
The ranking has become an influential career-catapulting list also used by foodie gourmands as an alternative reference to the traditional Michelin guides.
While the World’s 50 Best captures the zeitgeist of current culinary trends and considers the entire dining experience, the Michelin guides reward masterful cooking and execution, without regard to décor or service.
On Monday night (April 28), Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca will try to hold on to its top spot and keep Copenhagen hotspot Noma and Osteria Francescana in Italy at bay.
For the ranking, the awards enlist the opinions of 900 food critics, restaurateurs, chefs and “foodies” from 26 regions around the world.
Winners of the event enjoy stratospheric success in the way of long wait lists, fully booked restaurants and international recognition.
In advance of the gala event on Monday night in London, Brazilian chef Helena Rizzo was named the recipient of the Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef, while British celebrity chef Fergus Henderson received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The event will be live streamed on different channels including the Twitter account, Facebook and on www.finedininglovers.com/tag/50-best-restaurants on Monday, April 28 at 7pm GMT. – AFP Relaxnews
