PASTRY chefs at the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, North Carolina, have created an edible, 2.4m tall (8ft) Christmas tree made of 8,000 macarons.

The Macaron Holiday Tree came to life after six months of planning and a 58-hour marathon assembly.

Overall, the dessert tree required 10,008 egg whites; 57 cups of powdered sugar; 57 cups of sugar; 57 cups of almond flour and 15 cups of water.
