SUSUR Lee has become the first chef to announce plans to open a restaurant at the iconic One World Trade Center in New York.
In partnership with the China Center New York, which will serve as a gateway for Chinese companies to the US and take up permanent residence at the tower in 2015, Lee will open a restaurant at the Chinese centre’s private luxury members-only club on the 66th floor.
The menu is described as “re-imagined” authentic Chinese flavours presented in a modern and contemporary spirit. Dishes will also represent the eight main regions of China.
The opening at the reborn One World Trade Center will mark Lee’s second attempt at running a restaurant in New York City.
After three years, the Toronto-based Chinese chef shuttered Shang restaurant in the Thompson LES Hotel in 2011.
TV audiences know Lee for his appearances on shows like Iron Chef America and Top Chef Masters where he was the runner-up to winner Marcus Samuelsson.
He currently helms a trio of restaurants including Lee and Bent in Toronto and TungLok Heen at Hotel Michael in Singapore.
