Grand Prize goes to Francesco Majo for ingredients as jewellery.
AT the closing ceremony of the International Culinary Photography Festival (Festival international de la photographie culinaire) on Nov 28 in Paris, awards were distributed among the 34 professional photographers in the official competition. The theme of the event this year was “Luxury and Celebration”.
Throughout the festival, the competitors’ photographs were exhibited in various venues in Paris, including galleries, hotels and restaurants.
The prestigious Grand Prize went to photographer Francesco Majo for his trio of photographs showing simple ingredients transformed into jewellery, drawing attention to “the destruction of the planet’s food chain”, according to the comments accompanying his work.
For the Young Talent Award, photography students from the Institut des Gobelins paired up with chefs in training at Ferrandi, the culinary arts school, to present joint entries. The winning duo, Esteban Wautier and Clémence Le Rouzic, presented a photograph of a female bust made of edible ingredients.
Dorian Nieto, author of the blog Dorian Cuisine, received the Blogger and Amateur Chef Prize with an entry on the theme of foie gras.
The Public Prize, awarded based on online votes cast by the general public, went to Karyne Gagné for her photographs of children enjoying a cupcake party.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the festival, organisers invited five prestigious patrons to award the Patrons Grand Prize. Guy Savoy, Alain Passard, Thierry Marx, Pierre Gagnaire and Frédéric Anton chose to give the award to Patrick Rougereau for his unusual photographs combining the imagery of makeup and gastronomy.
