As good as it gets: A simple and tasty Indian meal like this costs about RM7 per plate at Pandiyan’s stall.
Two stalls in food courts that serve top-notch South Indian food.
READER Jonathan Brookes emailed me to ask about stalls selling good Indian food in the Klang Valley.
His message read: “Dear Sam, I am a Briton living in Kuala Lumpur under the Malaysia My Second Home programme.
“I want to know if there are any stalls selling good Indian food other than the restaurants because I am rather fed-up of eating in such places. Thank you.”
Well Mr Brookes, I can name two makan places that you can go to in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
First, there is Panir’s stall (N 03 07.348, E 101 40.448) at the Mutiara Bangsar Food Court in Jalan Liku, off Jalan Bangsar.
This is one of my favourite makan places and offers Southern Indian food.
Panir is well-known for his mutton curry and fried fish and his prices are very reasonable.
For example, a plate of rice with fried fish and vegetables costs about RM7 per serving.
Two stalls in food courts that serve top-notch South Indian food.At some restaurants in the Klang Valley, this simple fare would cost almost double.
For the record, Panir is a good friend of mine and during my stint as a reporter with a daily newspaper in Jalan Riong, his stall was my regular haunt.
As for the quality of food here, I find them top-notch.
I would rate his stall an eight out of 10 on the Samo-scale.
The other recommendation is Pandiyan’s stall (N 03 05.860, E 101 36.713) at Selera Wawasan, Jalan SS3/33, Petaling Jaya.
I found out about this makan place from a friend. I traced the stall and tried out Pandiyan’s offerings.
Highly recommended is the chicken feet curry.
This is my favourite dish and goes very well with a serving of hot
A meal consisting of meat and vegetables cost about RM7.
Both stalls are open for breakfast and lunch.
Panir’s stall is closed on Sundays but Pandiyan’s stays open throughout the week.
