Empty drink packs are 100% recyclable – so drop them in the recycling bin, not the trash can.
Malaysians guzzle carton drinks by the billions each year but few of the empty packs are recycled. A survey of 1,400 people by Tetra Pak Malaysia last year found that only 11 drink packs are recycled per person, and only two out of five consumers recycle their empty cartons.
“Traditionally, we see one of the highest consumption of carton drinks during the Hari Raya festivities. So we are launching this infographics communications to encourage and remind Malaysians to recycle their drink packs,” said Terrynz Tan, environment director for Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines & Indonesia.
The infographic also shows how a drink pack is recycled into paper, corrugated carton boxes as well as plastics and aluminium (polyAl) roof tiles or panel boards.
The company has also launched the “Recycle Easy” microsite (www.recycle-easy.com.my) which enables people to locate their nearest recycling drop-off point or collection centre.
“The microsite makes public collection points easier to locate, thereby increasing accessibility. To date, we have 20 collection partners providing 366 collection points in the country and this number is growing. We hope for more Malaysians to actively recycle, now that it’s easier to do so,” Tan added.
