The iconic cat with millions of fans all over the world is going all out to celebrate her big 4-0. Sort of.
Iconic Japanese cartoon cat Hello Kitty is set to star in her very first fan convention as well as an extensive museum exhibition in the United States to celebrate her 40th birthday.
Featuring unique collaborations and limited edition commemorative products, Hello Kitty Con 2014 – The Fan Convention in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, will provide an overview of the character over the decades.
Launched in partnership with retail chain Target, the convention will include a Hello Kitty vintage shop selling rare collectibles from the past in addition to a tattoo shop, art installations and a series of workshops and panel discussions.
A limited edition series of products, which will be available in Target stores in the US from Sept 14, will also be on display.
Since her first appearance on a coin purse in 1974, Hello Kitty has since become a global phenomenon and friend to millions.
In addition to the convention, the beloved cat character will also feature in a museum exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles from October.
Hello! Exploring The Supercute World Of Hello Kitty” will provide a retrospective of 40 years of product design and explore its influence on bridging Japanese and American cultures in the US.
In association with Hello Kitty’s 40th birthday, which officially takes place on Nov 1 of this year, parent company Sanrio will also release a variety of limited edition collectibles throughout the year, with partners including the NFL, Vans, Swarovski and McDonald’s.
Hello Kitty Con 2014 – The Fan Convention will run from Oct 30 to Nov 2 and Hello! Exploring The Supercute World Of Hello Kitty will run from Oct 11 till April 26, 2015.
