The FIFA World Cup page on Instagram will display exclusive photos, FIFA announced.
World Cup organisers have arrived on the photo sharing platform just ahead of the opening match.
The “FIFAWorldCup” Instagram account promises to show fans exclusive images from behind the scenes at the 12 Brazilian host stadiums.
“The official 2014 FIFA World Cup Instagram account will reach new audiences who love exclusive, beautiful imagery from the tournament,” said Matt Stone, head of digital media at FIFA.
“We look forward to seeing how the fans are enjoying the event worldwide and sharing the best highlights across the official FIFA digital platforms.”
The new Instagram account is just one way fans can follow the progress of the world’s largest soccer competition online. There is also FIFA.com, which will be updated in real time with the latest scores and news from the event. The site also features interviews, photos and other content as well as an online fan community.
Twitter users are encouraged to tweet messages and photos on their own World Cup experience with the hashtags #myworldcup or #CM2014 . FIFA’s account on the social network has over seven million followers.
Soccer buffs can also click like on the official World Cup Facebook page, which now has over 20 million fans. Altogether, FIFA’s various Facebook pages (World Cup, Women’s World Cup, Ballon D’Or, etc) claimed more than 280 million fans as of April 2014. — AFP Relaxnews
