Bottega Veneta Cruise 2013-14 signed by David Armstrong.
Italian luxury label picks American photographer, famed for his intimate portraits of young men, for its latest campaign.
BOTTEGA Veneta has a history of picking out interesting creative collaborations, and the company’s latest campaign doesn’t disappoint.
The Italian brand picked American photographer David Armstrong, famed for his intimate portraits of young men, to show off their new men’s and women’s Cruise collections.
Part of the “Boston School” of photographers, Armstrong emerged in the 1970s alongside Nan Goldin, Jack Pierson, and Philip-Lorca diCorcia. Featured at the 1995 Whitney Biennial and 1998’s Emotions And Relations at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Armstrong’s works are also part of the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
”I have long admired David’s portraits, which are distinctly modern and yet have a classicism of form,” explained Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier. “The clothes in this collection have an informal sensibility that is intrinsic to Cruise, and yet as with all our collections, there is a rigorous craftsmanship beneath everything. David’s aesthetic is perfectly calibrated to capture both these elements, and I was very happy with the result.”
Previous photo campaigns for Bottega Veneta have been shot by artists including Peter Lindbergh, Collier Schorr, Sam Taylor-Wood, Lord Snowdon and Stephen Shore.
The full campaign will debut in magazines in December. – AFP Relaxnews
