The Sultan Abdul Samad building was illuminated in pink in support of the Breast Cancer Awarness (BCA) Campaign.
For Breast Cancer Awareness month, Estee Lauder Malaysia has put together several events in support of the cause.
THINK of the women in your lives and put your best pink style forward! The Estee Lauder global Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign is back, with the theme, Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer, We’re Stronger Together.
The objective is to encourage everyone around the world to take specific actions that support breast health, towards the ultimate goal of a world without breast cancer. While the campaign was driven by one woman’s passion and dedication – Evelyn Lauder, the late wife of the company’s chairman – this year’s theme serves as a reminder for all that action cannot happen alone, large or small.
Everyone’s support is needed to help fight the disease in whatever way possible. Since 1997, Estee Lauder Malaysia has been spearheading the BCA Campaign by organising various awareness programmes and fundraising activities to educate the public on better breast health.
The BCA Campaign in Malaysia has raised a total of RM3.5 million to education, mammogram sponsorships and research solely in Malaysia, benefitting four organisations – Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), College of Radiology Malaysia, The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), and the Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF).
In line with this year’s global theme, the company is working harder through its BCA campaign to create more awareness for the disease and encourage more Malaysians to take charge of their own health as well as do all that they can for better breast health, education and research.
For the months of September and October, there are several BCA campaign activities and initiatives. These include:
> Feel Better Beauty Workshop: Breast cancer survivors were invited to this workshop on Sept 11 to help them focus on regaining their confidence and self-esteem through make-up and skincare. It was a day for survivors to embrace their femininity over and above all that they have gone through. Estee Lauder Malaysia encouraged the 100 participants to move forward to a life free of the stigma of breast cancer.
Make-up artists from Estee Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, and M.A.C were at hand to educate and provide participants with a complete makeover experience as well as a professional photo shoot. They also had a chance to experience a host of fragrances such as DKNY, Coach, and Tommy Hilfiger presented by Aramis Designer Fragrances, and took home exclusive door gifts from participating brands.
> Hairspray The Musical Pink Charity Night: Estee Lauder Malaysia collaborated with the globally acclaimed and award-winning Hairspray The Musical to raise runds in support of the BCA Campaign. The company reserved the finale night on Sept 22 at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Tickets were sold at RM800 per ticket or RM8,000, RM10,000 and RM20,000 for group buys of 10 tickets. Each ticket came with exclusive door gifts comprising Estee Lauder’s products valued at RM300 and above. Proceeds will be used to support efforts by the BCWA, NCSM, CARIF and the College of Radiology Malaysia.
Yvents!, the organiser of Hairspray The Musical, also donated 25% of the sales from the remaining tickets for the same night. As a show of unity as well as appreciation for the support given, guests for this glamorous evening of musical performance each received an exclusive Estee Lauder Pure Color Pink Lipstick with every ticket. Aside from the Pink Ribbon, female guests were encouraged to wear the pink lipstick for one night in pink for the BCA.
> Pink ribbon landmark illumination: Iconic buildings such as Pavilion KL, KL Tower, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Fahrenheit 88, Bintang Walk and National Science Centre in Malaysia have all been illuminated in pink for The BCA Campaign since 2007. This year, Malaysia’s most iconic and globally recognised landmark, The Petronas Twin Towers, will be illuminated on Oct 18 and 19.
The event is supported by Petronita, the women’s arm of the Petronas Group Of Companies. On the two nights, a glow of pink will be cast on the Petronas Twin Towers to serve as a reminder of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to show support for all who have been affected by breast cancer. In partnership with Suria KLCC, the fountain at Lake Symphony, KLCC Park will also be lit up in pink from Oct 18 till the end of the month.
> Pink Ribbon Charity Golf: Golfers from around the nation will be teeing off in pink in the name of charity on Oct 22. Now in its 13th year, the event will see 120 golfers taking part in the tournament, which will be held at the Bunga Raya Course, Saujana Golf & Country Club. For a fee of RM900 per person or RM3,600 per flight, golfers will come together as one to support The BCA Campaign. Proceeds from this event will be donated to charity and each golfer will take home a goody bag as well as stand a chance to win attractive lucky draw prizes.
> Mammogram sponsorship programme: Working closely with the National Cancer Society and the College of Radiology, the Mammogram Sponsorship Programme provides assistance to underprivileged women in rural villages and urban poor areas in regard to better breast health knowledge and transportation to local hospitals for their subsidised mammograms.
Malaysians are encouraged to make a donation for the programme with as little as RM50. Estee Lauder Malaysia will match the total amount donated by the public. Donations can be made at any Estee Lauder Companies counters (Estee Lauder, Clinique, Origins, Aramis, Bobbi Brown and La Mer) in Parkson, Isetan, AEON, Metrojaya and Sogo KL stores nationwide from Oct 1 until end of this month.
