REFERRING to the article Leading The Field, (Star2, March 9) by Christina Chin, I noticed that “nasi padang” was translated as “field rice.” Yes, “padang” does mean “field” ... but not so in this context! Padang here refers to a place called Padang in West Sumatera, Indonesia, where most of the Minangkabau people live. Thus, Nasi Minang is also called Nasi Padang (with a capital “P”), giving honour to the place. Just wanted to share this knowledge with everyone.
