Dumex Chef Cilik is back for another exciting season after its debut on Astro Ria (channel 104) last year. This season sees celebrity MasterChef 2012 winner, Datuk Fazley Yaakob, spicing things up in the judges panel.
He joins season one judges, freelance chef and culinary consultant Chef Andri and Dumex nutritionist Nor'azah Mohd Sidi. The programme will now be hosted by actress Yasmin Hani.
Boasting an overwhelming seven million viewers last season, the show promises more new and exciting challenges this season.
Aimed at promoting nutrition for healthier Malaysian children, the show encourages family bonding by adapting healthier eating habits. The reality cooking competition will see 27 pairs of contestants (the pairs have to be from the same family and one member should be a child) vying to win cash prizes totalling RM50,000 with their own rendition of tasty and healthy meals following a certain guideline.
The contestants will be judged based on their cooking skills, personality and methods of incorporating healthy ingredients with Dumex products into their recipes.
“We have a tagline called 'ragam' (personality) 'rupa' (appearance) and 'rasa,' (taste) which is sort of a guideline to judge the winners. We will look at their cooking techniques and skills as well as ensure that the food prepared relates easily to the audience,” said Fazley at the media launch of the new season.
Elaborating further on the structure for the latest season, Toni Brendish, managing director of Danone Dumex Malaysia, said, “To help children develop holistically, this season we have incorporated challenges in the show to bring out the top five development priorities in growing-up children comprising, brain development, bone development, vitality, immunity and digestion.”
The programme will kick off with the teams battling it out in the first nine episodes to qualify for the semi-finals. While the final episode will see three teams battling for the championship title and prize by preparing a three-course meal. To make things more interesting, the teams get to invite two additional family members to join them in the finale.
The grand prize winner will take home RM25,000 in cash while the second and third place winners will receive RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.
This season will see a lot more creativity in the challenges. The children will also receive extra help to improve their cooking skills. There will be better game rounds, different set designs and different celebrity chefs in each episode.
There will also be a recipe segment by Chef Andri who will share healthy recipes with the celebrity guests.
For viewers at home, there will be a weekly nutritional quiz on the Dumex Dugro Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DumexDugro. In addition, viewers can also download the recipes shared by Chef Andri from the Facebook page.
Dumex Chef Cilik season two premieres on Astro Ria (channel 104) on Feb 20, 2013, at 9pm, and the finale is to take place in May.
