WHERE do you go to have a workout for your brain? Why, the Brain Gym, of course! It sounds like a silly trick question that a child would ask, but in fact, it is possible to “exercise” the brain.
The movement-based learning programme was founded in 1986 by Paul Dennison, a professional educator and pioneer in the field of kinesiology, and Gail, an artist and movement educator, who later became his wife and collaborator. Together, they co-founded and co-created Educational Kinesiology, the Brain Gym activities, and the Learning-through- Movement series of books and manuals.
Based on the premise that all learning begins with movement, and that the right movements can help overcome learning challenges, American Brain Gym instructor and author Cecilia Koester took the programme a step further by modifying the movements to address special needs children.
