Disney’s new animation features the adventures of Snow White’s pals, the seven dwarfs.
Whether it is the classic Brothers Grimm tale or the Disney version, we all know the story of Snow White. Not much is known about Snow White’s seven friends, though, but with Disney’s latest animation programme, The 7D, we can learn a thing or two about them.
The show takes a contemporary and comedic look into the Jollywood world of the seven dwarfs – Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy and Dopey – and it also features quirky new characters like Hildy and Grim Gloom, and Queen Delightful. The 7D premieres on the Disney Channel (Astro Ch 615) this Sunday at 11am.
Check out who’s who in the show:
Doc (voiced by Bill Farmer)
Doc the inventor is the wise one in the group, and the one everyone goes to for advice. He is voiced by the legendary Bill Farmer, who has been giving life to iconic Disney characters Goofy and Pluto since 1987.
Grumpy (Maurice Lamarche)
Like his name suggests, Grumpy is one cranky character, but deep down inside he is quite the softie. Emmy winner Maurice Lamarche voices Grumpy; his other major works include playing the voice of The Brain from Pinky And The Brain, Calculon/Kif from Futurama and Dr Doom in several Marvel programmes.
Happy (Kevin Michael Richardson)
Happy’s demeanour is the opposite of Grumpy’s – he’s the most cheerful member in the group! Also, he loves to sing and play music, which pretty much annoys Grumpy. Kevin Michael Richardson voices Happy, but he’s actually more known for his work as villains Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Joker in The Batman. If you’re a fan of Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H., you’d be delighted to know that Richardson plays the voice of Groot in the show.
Dopey (Dee Bradley Baker)
Dopey is the clumsy, naive oaf in the group – you can’t help but love him! He is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who also does Klaus the fish in American Dad, Cinnamon Bun in Adventure Time and Perry the Platipus in Phineas And Ferb. In The 7D, the talented Baker provides the sounds for all the woodland creatures, too.
Sneezy (Scott Menville)
He may sneeze a lot, but Sneezy is actually one of the most dependable and loyal members of the seven dwarfs. He is voiced by Scott Menville, who has been involved in numerous big-screen animated features like Despicable Me, Wreck-It-Ralph, Tangled and Paranorman.
Sleepy (Stephen Stanton)
Sleepy is one of the quieter members of the group – he’s always so sleepy that he can hardly ever finish a whole sentence! Stephen Stanton is the voice of Sleepy, but you may recognise him as the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi is several Star Wars-themed videogames and the animated TV series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Bashful (Billy West)
Bashful is so shy that it’s quite difficult to find out what kind of character he is. Billy West plays Bashful in The 7D but he is more known for his other famous work – as Philip J. Fry in Futurama!
Hildy Gloom (Kelly Osbourne) and Grim Gloom (Jess Harnell)
This little witch and her dim-witted warlock husband want to rule the world of Jollywood, which is where the seven dwarfs live. Hildy is voiced by Kelly Osbourne while Jess Harnell plays Grim. Osbourne is of course the daughter of rock star Ozzy Osbourne of the Black Sabbath, and one of the hosts of Fashion Police. Meanwhile, Harnell is the guy who voices Tim the bear in The Cleveland Show. For his work as the voice of Wakko in the cult favourite Animaniacs, Harnell received a Peabody Award.
Queen Delightful (Leigh-Allyn Baker)
As the ruler of Jollywood, Queen Delightful is charming, kind and loving, as well as a little humorous. Playing her is Leigh-Allyn Baker who is not just known for her voice-over work, but as an actress in shows like Will & Grace, Good Luck Charlie and Charmed.
