Lorenzo Richelmy in 'Marco Polo'.
Netflix, which is producing Marco Polo, announced the release date for the series on Thursday.
The original series that focuses on the travels of Italian explorer of Marco Polo will be made available to Netflix users in the United States on Dec 12.
The 10-episode Marco Polo was created by John Fusco and is produced by The Weinstein Company. It stars relatively unknown Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy, who plays the lead character. Other actors include British star Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu as Kokachin, Joan Chen, Remy Hii, Olivia Cheng, Claudia Kim, Uli Latufeku, Chin Han and Tom Wu.
The show follows the adventures of the explorer as he journeys from Venice, Italy to Asia, where he sort of gets involved in a war. There’s also some romantic themes thrown into the story.
While a big part of the series was filmed at the Pinewood Studios in Johor earlier this year, some scenes were also shot in Venice and Kazakhstan.
Unfortunately, Malaysian viewers will have to hope and wait for another TV network to pick up Marco Polo to watch the show, since the streaming service Netflix is not available here.
