The late Puan Sri Saloma and Tan Sri P. Ramlee on their wedding day. For P. Ramlee - a documentary on the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee on History Channel on Oct 31 at 9pm.
SALMAH Ismail, or better known as Saloma, was born in Singapore in 1935. She passed away in Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya on April 25, 1983.
She was actively singing from her early teens, paying her dues performing at night clubs with a band and singing at weddings.
The songstress was the first recipient of the title Biduanita Negara (National Artiste) at Kecapi Awards in 1978. The only other person to receive the same honour was the late Sharifah Aini.
Her first marriage was to A.R. Tompel, with whom she had a child Armali Aman Ramlie. Her stepson was none other than comedian A.R. Badul (Tompel’s son from his previous marriage). The late Saloma’s second marriage was to Tan Sri P. Ramlee (she was his third wife).
The singer/actress would sew the clothes she wore when perfoming on stage. Part of her beauty regime included taking extreme care of her nails.
