The fee is reportedly the highest paid to any talent show judge from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
ANDY Lau is to be paid a record 30 million yuan (RM16.6mil) to be a judge-mentor on China’s talent show The Voice Of China, said a report.
The amount is the highest earned by any talent show judge from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, said Apple Daily Hong Kong.
It said Lau, 52, will join Chinese pop diva Na Ying, Taiwan singer A-Mei and Chinese rocker Wang Feng as a judge on season three of the show in June, and Taiwan singer-songwriter Harlem Yu, a judge from season one in 2012, will exit.
The Zhejiang Television show, based on the Dutch series The Voice Of Holland, has been a massive hit from season one, with average viewership rising from 800 million to 1.2 billion.
Advertising revenues have also gone up from 300 million yuan (RM165.6mil) to 1 billion yuan (RM552.3mil), with producers expecting the takings to hit 1.5 billion yuan (RM828.4mi) in season three.
Lau’s 30 million yuan fee is lower than the 50 million yuan (RM27.6mil) the singer-actor had asked for, said Apple, citing sources.
His assistant confirmed that Lau is in discussion with the show’s producers.
A spokesman for the show would only tell Apple that an announcement on the judges will be made after the Chinese New Year holidays.
Yu’s manager confirmed that while Yu has not been approached for a new stint, the singer already has a full schedule this summer with a Taipei concert. As reported, A-Mei and Na Ying will each command 15 million yuan (RM8.3mil) for the third season.
Lau’s fee is higher than the 20 million yuan (RM11mil) reportedly paid each to Chinese celebrity judge Zhang Ziyi on Hunan TV’s The X Factor: China’s Strongest Voice, and Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse on the station’s Super Boy competition.
