Scottish comedian ready to make Malaysian debut show next month.
HE was born in a small town in the west of Scotland, he is a household name in Australia, he appeared with the Muppets in Canada and now he aims to make his presence felt in these parts – that’s the shortcut tale of Danny Bhoy. Of course, there’s a lot more behind this funnyman’s life story and punchlines.
We’ll leave it to Danny Bhoy to deliver the stand-up kicks. Malaysians will be be able to catch him live on stage at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 12.
Starting his comedy career in 1998 in Britain, Danny Bhoy won the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award – one of British comedy’s biggest starting blocks – a year later. During the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland, he was on the shortlist for the inaugural (and only) Richard Pryor Award for Ethnic Comedy.
Danny Bhoy’s career has come a long way since then. His humour, often enough, is observational and intelligent, while his critique of society always on the spot.
The Indian-Scot, born Danni Chaudhry, has made quite a name for himself in Australia, where he has toured regularly through the years. Canada and New Zealand have also been big supporters. In fact, the 39-year-old chap wrapped up a recent sold-out Australia/New Zealand tour with multiple shows added due to high demand.
Next month he has this region in his sights and Kuala Lumpur will also be keen to experience the man’s A-game on stage.
He will be performing a 75-minute comedy set, featuring his latest material and some of his classics. Supporting the show is Imran Yusuf, a Kenyan-born, British stand-up comedian.
