The legendary Brits that hauled you to the dancefloor and made you sing along back in the day are coming to Kuala Lumpur.
First on the list is British pop duo Pet Shop Boys that will be bringing its brand of electro pop and art spectacle to Kuala Lumpur for the first time on Sept 24 at Stadium Negara. On Oct 21, British singer-songwriter Leo Sayer will be rolling back the years with his pop hits at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Formed in London in 1981, the Pet Shop Boys duo Neil Tennant, 60, and Chris Lowe, 54, have transcended the times and albums like Please, Actually, Behaviour, Fundamental and Very are among the British electronica classics. As a testament of the duo’s consistency, they still remain at the forefront of the electronica scene.
The duo’s latest album Electric, released last year, features a high tempo collection of dance anthems and kaleidoscopic effects. Kuala Lumpur finally finds itself on the Pet Shop Boys current tour diary next month. Pet Shops Boys have already played in Singapore four times, including the classic Discovery tour in 1995 and Release tour in 2002.
For this upcoming tour date in Kuala Lumpur, Pet Shop Boys fans can expect favourites like It’s A Sin, Rent, Domino Dancing, Somewhere, Go West, Always On My Mind and West End Girls. More info for the Pet Shop Boys’ concert in Kuala Lumpur at airasiaredtix.com or petshopboys.co.uk.
Elsewhere, Leo Sayer, 66, is a star in his own right. Just gear up for a blast of nostalgia at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in October. The one-time hotel porter graduated from writing songs for the Who’s Roger Daltrey to become a 1970s chart-topping solo star, as successful in the United States as in Britain.
Whether performing first hit The Show Must Go On in clown make-up, rocking the disco to its foundations with You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (a US No. 1 in 1977) or returning to the British chart summit in 2006 with a dance remix of Thunder In My Heart, Sayer has never been less than entertaining, mixing singer-songwriter sensitivity with a sense of fun.
This little man with a huge talent will be rocking Kuala Lumpur with the hits (More Than I Can Say, When I Need You, I Can’t Stop Loving You, One Man Band) and key album tracks from his long and funkily fruitful career. Find Sayer’s concert details in Kuala Lumpur at ticketcharge.com.my.
