The legendary Tony Bennett performing with his daughter, Antonia. - M. AZHAR ARIF/The Star
Crooner holds first show in the country at 87.
AT 87, Tony Bennett proved that he was still a top notch performer when he crooned his way into the hearts of Malaysians during his one-night show at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here on Monday night.
Backed by a four-piece band, daughter Antonia Bennett started the night off with some jazz standards before papa, looking dapper in a beige jacket, came on stage and stole the limelight.
Performing in Malaysia for the first time, he delivered a polished performance as he took the audience on a voyage of timeless classics. Bennett charmed his mostly older fans by belting out more than a dozen hits, most of them tracing his extraordinary, multi-Grammy winning career. Among the songs performed during the hour-and-a-half concert included The Way You Look Tonight, Smile, The Good Life, For Once In My Life, his signature I Left My Heart In San Francisco and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, the first song he ever recorded.
Every song was performed with remarkable finesse and the audience could only marvel at his skill before giving him a multiple standing ovation.
Look out for our complete review of Bennett's performance in the Thursday issue of Star2.
