Filmmaker and singer-songwriter Pete Teo advocates issues like peace and racial unity through his works. His new video project 'Hari Malaysia' will be released on Sept 16 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the country's formation.
The local singer-songwriter launches a Malaysia Day video project by and for the community.
A STAR-studded cast of modern Malaysian personalities will be transported back to the founding moments of the nation’s history in an upcoming Malaysia Day-themed video.
Notable local celebrities and politicians featured in the clip include Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Nurul Izzah Anwar, Lim Kit Siang, Marina Mahathir, Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Saifuddin Abdullah, Jo Kukathas and Sharifah Amani among others.
The four-minute clip entitled Hari Malaysia was shot by acclaimed singer-songwriter and producer Pete Teo and will be released on Sept 16 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the country’s formation.
“I want Hari Malaysia to serve as a reminder to Malaysians about our commonality. At the end of the day, we all share a similar thing which is the same path and destiny,” said Teo.
Teo’s filmography includes several other videos such as Here In My Home, 15Malaysia and Undilah.
The video took five months to make and will display an assortment of CGI-enhanced archived film footage from the 1950s and 1960s.
“We went through a lot of old footages from the community that depicted the time during the establishment of Malaysia. It’s really a project by and for the community,” he said.
Teo added that the video will focus on a storyline surrounding a moment when Malaysia came to be.
There will be two variants of the video. The English version will feature a rendition of the song Slipstream performed by Melina William while the Bahasa Malaysia video contains the song Kembara by Asmidar.
Both tracks were written by Teo and the Bahasa Malaysia version will feature orchestration by famed Japanese violinist Sayaka Katsuki.
The video will be released on YouTube and also on the project’s website (www.harimalaysia.com) on Sept 16. For more information regarding Hari Malaysia, check out the project’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hari.msia.
