The trolls are making a comeback in a big (screen) way and the Pitch Perfect star is on board.
Dreamworks Animation has landed the star of Pitch Perfect for the first entry in what’s to become a revival of the Trolls toy franchise.
Popular during the 1960s and then relaunched in the 1990s, the collectible Troll dolls are being positioned for a comeback.
TV series Trollz might not have taken off, but directing the November 2016 animated film is Mike Mitchell of Shrek Forever After, box-office smash Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and 2015’s Spongebob Squarepants 2.
Kendrick will play the part of a princess named Poppy, reports Variety. Chloe Moretz and Jason Schwartzman had been named in lead roles as part of a Dreamworks announcement in September 2012.
Musical films are no stranger to Twilight star Kendrick, who has booked Pitch Perfect 2 as a sequel to the 2012 success, as well as a co-starring role in Disney’s crossover musical fairy tale Into The Woods set for December 2014 and an adaptation of Off-Broadway hit musical The Last Five Years.
“She’ll inject Poppy with the exact mix of spirit, sass and song that will no doubt give a whole new life to the iconic Troll dolls,” said Mitchell. — AFP Relaxnews
