Ice Cube (right) and his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr . Jackson will play his father in a biopic of rap group NWA called 'Straight Outta Compton'.
Straight Outta Compton is expected to begin filming soon.
Ice Cube, Dr Dre and Easy-E are cast for Straight Outta Compton, a recreation of the West Coast rap group’s rise to fame.
Best known in the acting circles is Marcus Callender, who’s to play Dr Dre and has previously appeared in TV series Blue Bloods, Elementary, and the pilot episode of Criminal Justice; Callender was also in New York’s Shakespeare Lab at the Public Theatre.
Jason Mitchell is to play Eazy-E, with The Hollywood Reporter’s sources saying that the unknown got the part “after an out-of-the-park screen test”, having his name in the credits of Broken City and Contraband.
Ice Cube, Dr Dre, and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright all had final say on the three casting choices. So perhaps it’s no surprise that Cube’s first choice for his own portrayal won out – his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr.
Filming is expected to get underway in a couple of months’ time, with F. Gary Gray of Friday, Ice Cube music video It Was A Good Day, Vin Diesel movie A Man Apart and the Italian Job remake attached as director. — AFP Relaxnews
