Although her character died in the first film in James Cameron’s tetralogy, the American actress will return in the forthcoming movies in the series.
Stranger things have happened in the world of sci-fi movies. After playing the scientist Grace Augustine, who died in the 2009 film, Sigourney Weaver will return to the Avatar universe in an entirely new role. James Cameron announced the news to the Hollywood Reporter in a statement.
This will be the third collaboration between the actress and the Titanic helmer, following Aliens and the first Avatar film.
“We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together,” Cameron stated. “So it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels.”
The new character, which the director describes as “in many ways more challenging” than Weaver’s previous role, will appear in the second, third and fourth films in the series, which are due in theaters in December 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. — AFP Relaxnews
